Faith
Educare was established in 1965 as Canal Winchester Nursery School.
Child care was added to the program in 1973 and the name changed to Faith
Educare.
Faith Educare has some very deep roots in the areas of the education, care, and development of young children in our community. We have been an integral part of the lives of many children and their families over the years. We are proud of our history, our goals and philosophy and our ministry. And we are proud to share them with you! Faith Educare began in 1965, when Mrs. Richard (Jan) Baker, who was the current minister's wife, organized a preschool class so that her four year old daughter could have a group experience with other children her own age. The name selected was Canal Winchester Nursery School. Mrs. Jack Hunter and Mrs. Willis Alspach were the first teachers for the twelve children in the first class. The nursery school was a success. In 1966 Mary Miles became the director and served in that capacity as well as teaching until she retired in 1988. In 1988, Karen Badger was named director, after serving two years as an Extended Care Teacher. We have a staff of 23 teachers and helpers. Many of our teachers have been here 10 years and more. Several have reached their 20th anniversary and beyond. In 1973, the nursery school expanded to include a "Mother's Day Out" program and the Extended Care that exists today was born. Over the years we have served several thousand children and families in the Canal Winchester and surrounding communities. The Philosophy and Goals that were established for the early preschool are timeless in their approach. Although the words have been updated to make them more "politically correct" nothing else has been changed in our desire to provide the best possible learning and nurturing environment for our children. Philosophy Our traditional nursery school is inherently Christian in its approach. The school is open to the community and follows the basic philosophy and methodology of the United Methodist Church. Being Christian has to do with more than curriculum. It involves attitudes of love and respect for all boys and girls. It means that no child will be discriminated against for reasons of race, religion, national origin, sex, or ancestry. The teacher's role is to plan activities so that the child can learn chiefly from what he or she does, rather than from what he or she is told. The toys must promote a youngster's growth. They must also stimulate his or her development as a creative, self-reliant and imaginative citizen in a democratic society. Other training includes learning a number of self-help skills that a child can use in everyday life. Goals For each individual child we hope to:

Schedule
Please remember that these are sample schedules. Our teachers are free to set their own schedules according to the needs of each class. Teachers may present our curriculum in their own style as long as it meets with state requirements and falls within the guidelines of Faith Educare's Philosophy and Goals statements. Teachers are required to post a schedule of weekly or monthly activities on their bulletin boards for parents' information. Faith United Methodist Educare II is a Kindergarten-6th grade extended care facility. During the school year, students may attend before and/or after school. The Kindergarteners attend a half-day program here and half-day at Indian Trail Elementary. Bus service is provided by the school district to our facility before school, after school and also at Noon for the Kindergarten students. In the summer, we offer a full-day program for all students K-6th grade. We offer swimming activities at the Canal Winchester pool, some field trips and a variety of fun summer activities. This past summer (2008) we were able to participate in Faith United Methodist Church's "Wacky Wednesday" activities. Our Kindergarten extended care program is taught by Christine Hoffman, a former elementary school teacher. Her program closely follows that of Indian Trail Elementary and she is constantly in contact with the teachers there to ensure the continuity of both programs. (Our Kindergarten program is an extended care enrichment program only and cannot take the place of an accredited Kindergarten program.) All of our lead teachers have college degrees or are working toward a degree. All of our teachers and assistant teachers have experience working with children. Educare Hours -
